Employment Pass FAQ
Sponsor-first answers for Employment Pass. Salary floors and category labels belong on current ESD / immigration guidance.
-
What is an Employment Pass?
A work pass enabling an expatriate to take up employment with a named Malaysian organisation, subject to approval and immigration issuance.
-
Can I apply for my own EP?
Under the ESD model, the hiring company registers and submits — expatriates are not meant to self-sponsor casually through that channel.
-
What salary do I need?
Minimums depend on category and current circulars. Confirm on ESD materials the week of offer — do not use a 2022 blog table.
-
Can I change employers?
EP is tied to the sponsoring company. Changing employers generally means a new application frame.
-
What about my spouse and children?
Dependent Pass / LTSVP options are described on ESD pages for eligible family members once principal EP logic is in place.
-
How long is EP valid?
ESD describes validity linked to the employment contract up to a maximum window (commonly discussed up to 60 months) subject to authority discretion — confirm live.
-
EP vs DE Rantau?
EP = Malaysian employer sponsor. DE Rantau = remote/foreign work stay under MDEC. Pick the frame that matches who pays you.
-
Why do files stall?
Incomplete sponsor documents, wrong category/salary story, and timeline gaps between approval and endorsement. See our guides.
