  • Remote founder / indie hacker

    You earn from products or clients outside Malaysia and want a base in KL or elsewhere for a defined stretch. Start with DE Rantau and foreign-income proof quality. Employment Pass only enters if you form or join a real Malaysian employing entity — not as a lifestyle label. Long-stay without a remote-work frame may push you toward MM2H or PVIP instead.

  • Digital nomad (6–12 month stay)

    First read: DE Rantau · Watch: tourist bridging & local gigs

    You need lawful presence while working remotely for a foreign employer or abroad-facing income. DE Rantau is the named programme to test against current MDEC rules. Do not plan Malaysian client work on the wrong pass, and do not treat social visit overstays as a bridge. Compare on the matrix if your stay goal is actually multi-year retirement-style presence.

  • Employee on company transfer

    First read: Employment Pass · Watch: sponsor pack gaps

    A Malaysian entity (or Malaysian arm of your group) is putting you on local employment. Start with Employment Pass — category, salary floor under current ESD/IMI rules, and sponsor document completeness. Family usually follows via Dependent Pass once the principal frame is right. MM2H is rarely the first tool for a sponsored transfer.

  • Retiree couple

    First read: MM2H / PVIP · Watch: superseded threshold PDFs

    The goal is multi-year presence, not a Malaysian job. Read MM2H and PVIP as alternative long-stay frames and compare financial posture on official guides — not blog screenshots. Property purchase is not stay rights. If one spouse will work for a Malaysian employer, re-sequence around Employment Pass for that principal.
