PVIP & Dependent FAQ
Family and premium long-stay questions. Dependent Pass usually follows a qualifying principal — PVIP is a separate long-stay instrument.
-
What is PVIP?
The Premium Visa Programme is a distinct long-stay track with its own official eligibility. Compare it with MM2H using primary sources — not social-media spreadsheets.
-
What is a Dependent Pass?
A family pass typically tied to a principal’s qualifying status (often Employment Pass). No qualifying principal usually means Dependent is the wrong instrument.
-
Can dependents work?
Generally Dependent Pass is not a work pass. Verify current IMI / ESD rules before assuming any employment.
-
Dependent vs joining MM2H as a family?
Different structures. MM2H treats household participation under programme rules; Dependent follows a principal’s EP-type status. Map your facts first.
-
Does property purchase create Dependent or PVIP rights?
No. Ownership ≠ immigration status.
-
What documents stall family files?
Relationship evidence, age limits, translations/attestation, and naming mismatches. See our attestation and naming guides.
-
Marriage to a Malaysian citizen?
Often a different map (including LTSVP-style routes). Confirm with IMI guidance for your facts — don’t force EP/MM2H language onto it.
-
When is EP or MM2H the wrong first answer?
Remote-only foreign work pushed into EP; retirees pushed into Dependent without a principal; lifestyle stay forced into EP keywords. Use the comparison matrix.
