Employment Pass & ESD overview digest
Employment Pass applications are company-driven through the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) and processed with MYXpats. Expatriates do not self-file EP as individuals on the public ESD model.

What this means in practice
- Companies must register with ESD before submitting expatriate Employment Pass applications.
- EP authorises work only for the named sponsoring employer; changing employers means a new application frame.
- Related facilities (Dependent Pass, LTSVP, Professional Visit Pass, Residence Pass-Talent where applicable) sit alongside EP in the ESD ecosystem — each with its own rules.
- Client-charter timelines quoted on ESD pages assume complete submissions; incomplete sponsor packs blow up the clock.
- Category labels and minimum salary bands are defined in current ESD / immigration guidance — do not invent floors from old blogs.

Before you file or pay an agent
- If there is no Malaysian sponsoring entity, EP is usually the wrong frame — compare DE Rantau / MM2H / PVIP.
- Ask the company which ESD checklist and position setup they are using before you resign elsewhere.
- Map approval → Visa with Reference (if any) → entry → endorsement as separate steps.
- Family moves usually wait on principal EP logic — see PVIP / Dependent hub.
