ESD / MYXpats flows often advise applicable fees after approval — the approval letter is not the whole cost picture.

Before you file or pay an agent

Budget with a contingency line; do not lock life plans to a WhatsApp fee quote.
Ask for the instrument name/date behind any fee you are told to pay.
Separate government fees from agent professional fees in writing.
